There are two major types of remote wired meter reading touch pad based reading and visual remotes.
Water meter remote reader wiring.
The water meters connect to the omnimeters via a 2 wire connection see the omnimeters spec sheets for detailed wiring instructions.
Environmentally sealed to keep unit water proof and to ensure no internal fogging.
One end has factory installed round terminals for screw attachment to register.
Other end is plain.
The water meters are unpowered and do not require a power source.
There are four wires coloured red yellow green and blue and four terminals in the reader labelled 1 2 3 and 4.
Both use the same encoder output.
Recommended cable is a 3 conductor 24 gauge stranded wire with shielding.
If you have water meter located in a place that is difficult to read such as a basement tenant apartment or underground meter pit a wired remote allows easy meter reading without actually being at the meter.
Maximum dis tance between the meter and remote reader is 2000 ft.
This works with kemp meek digital remotes but it will work with any 3 wire amr or ami radio remote system.
The customers and meter readers can access the meter reading without having access to the water and or gas meter itself.
During some renovation work the wire from my water meter to the remote reader has become disconnected.
